I know, it sounds like we got snow, but we most certainly did not. Friend Carol and I did take a drive to Winter, Wisconsin though. There is a huge greenhouse in Winter, we had been talking about going all summer and finally fit it into our schedules on Friday.
It's a far drive, but it was a nice day. We stopped at a veggie stand along the way. An old farmer with some tasty, fresh produce and a little 'snack dog' for a pet. Then we stopped for lunch at
Red's Big Bear Lodge in Winter. What a sweet spot. Located in the Flambeau State Forest right on the Flambeau River.

This is a popular canoe landing, pretty little spot for sure. |
You know you are Up North when there are more stuffed heads than customers in the bar! |
Yes, they have a Big Bear out front. It does look like it might be a cousin to a big hog though. |
Once at the greenhouse, I started getting ideas for new perennials to try next year.
I made Carol hold this info card, she's got the good manicure.
The greenhouse is fairly empty now, but there are many grasses to chose from. |
I loved this baby's breath, and it is Zone 3! I'm definitely adding that to the yard next spring. |
These huge petunia balls still look great. They have the magic touch, obviously. |
After a stop in Hayward at The Mercantile and Hi Ho Silver Jewelry, we headed back to Carol's house.
There we joined Pete and Foxy for a pontoon boat ride on Prairie Lake near Chetek.
Foxy is quite the good boat dog. |
We saw a very pretty sunset. |
And we enjoyed a couple of cold adult beverages on our ride. |
It was a full day and lots of fun. I was a tired girl when I got home.
200 miles in the car is enough for one day I guess.
