Right on time

Orioles frequently return to the same areas to nest but they rarely re-use a nest.  In my case the Orioles return almost to the day each year.

Today was my first sighting of a Baltimore Oriole in my yard.

I have a bird book where I record when I see the firsts of the season as well as other events in life.  Today, when I turned the page to record my Oriole sighting, I was surprised to see that this is a very common day for Baltimore Orioles to return to Rice Lake.

Last, a leap year, the Oriole returned a day late, or at least that is when I saw him.

2016 the Oriole was 2 days late, another leap year.

Curious!

Welcome back you little beauty!
