Newsies x2

Friday night was the opening performance of Newsies by the Community and Siren School at Siren, WI.  Great niece Megan was cast in the leading female role of Katherine.

The show was fantastic.  Early in the first act, there is a song by the entire cast of 'newsies' and it brought tears to my eyes.  The voices sounded so strong, confident and well blended.  It was impressive.  I had not seen this musical before, only knew the basic story, but from the very first song, I was completely drawn into the story and the lives of these street-children.

Megan had a couple of solos and sang several songs with 2 or 3 of her castmates.
I needed several tissues to get through the performance.
She was stunning.
I had never heard her sing before, I had seen her on stage at Luck for one of the drama club's performances, but nothing that would hold a candle to this role.
Megan sang with confidence and her lines were given with such strong stage presence.  Wow.

After, she thanked us all for coming; her entire immediate family, all grandparents, and many close friends were there to support her and cheer her on.

Megan and 'newsies'.  The young man is red is Gunnar, he's the bf.

The drive home turned crappy just past McKinley, 40 mph for about 35 miles, I did not enjoy it.  I was really glad to see these tracks once I was parked in my garage.

I went back on Sunday for the matinee show.  Again it was a full house, and the kids did even better.
They were all sad to see it come to an end, as was I.

Bravo! to the entire cast and crew.

They burst into song as they were lining up for this crew photo in the lobby.

I can't wait to see where she performs next, I'm going to love this.

First Robin of 2022

Saw the first Robin of 2022 in the backyard on 3.19.2022.

Yay for Spring.  Yesterday I fulfilled the tradition started by niece Kaija, so, I went to Dairy Queen to officially commemorate the first Robin of the year sighting.
This cone was valued at 24 WW points, for those of you in the WW know.
It was worth every bit.

A follow up photo from the National Honor Society ceremony evening.  One of the other Mom's took this and it made it's way to me.

Cats

 Buddy was here last night.

After his snack he perched on the front step for awhile.

Barley is learning to be a lap cat now. She stretches one leg out, striking a pose.

It was a quiet weekend, big snow is forecasted for tonight.
I filled up the food dish in Buddy's shelter.

National Honor Society

Stella was inducted into the National Honor Society on Monday night.   Grandma Lois, Great Aunt Lois & Great Aunt Wanda attended the ceremony with her.  (Kyle & Heather were in Florida to watch Gage play baseball.)

Stella was the only Sophomore being inducted. The criteria include scholarship, leadership, service & character.

New members receive a certificate and plaque and then light a candle.

An oath is administered.

Stella is quiet, sincere and kind.  She is involved in sports, the family business and always had a smile.  I was proud to be there to celebrate this step in her high school achievements.

Congratulations Stella!

Underwear

I was taking the garbage to the garage this afternoon and saw the shadow of a big bird slide across the asphalt.  I looked up and saw an immature eagle circling.
I watched him for quite a while, trying to use my cellphone to snap a photo or two, with no luck.
I even watched a crow appear and hassle the eagle trying to get him to move out of the neighborhood, but the eagle held his ground and continued to soar.
I finally decided to go into the house and get my Nikon and see if he would wait for me...
and he did.

It is interesting to see them from below, you can really see their under feathers and feet tucked under their tail as they soar.
What a treat to watch the show put on by this young Bald Eagle.
