This week I was lucky enough to see a couple of red breasted nuthatches hovering near the end of pine cones in the trees at the edge of my yard. They seemed to be getting nectar / sap from the cones. The hovering action was fun to see, and impossible to photograph. I did manage to get this shot of one of the birds. I have only seen this species in my yard one other time, so it was a treat.
