. I spent Thursday early morning in the Emergency Room. My heart started going fast, 120-135 bpm, at about 1:30 in the morning. I took my rescue drug and a low dose aspirin and drank water. 9 times out of 10, this brings my heart rate back to normal. But, my heart still hadn't settled down by 3 am. So, due to the risk of blood clots at the irregular beat, I had to go to the ER. I thought I was walking into a busy night at the ER, as the Flight for Life chopper was landing as I was parking. But they only had ⁸3 patients, including me.
The doctor ordered a bolus of Diltiazem and a bag of fluids. In about 30 minutes, my heart responded and slowed down to 80 bpm. I was thankful for the good doctor and his calm bedside manner and kindness. The nurses and technicians were also very nice. By 5am, I was back home, going to bed.
My heart had a workout.
I am so glad that I didn't have to be shocked back into normal sinus rhythm. Because they give Versed when they cardovert physically, the patient can't drive for several hours, which complicates things for me to get home and get my car home. I lucked out this time.
Life is good.
