My gardener friend, Carolyne, offered to let me dig up some Siberian Iris in her gardens a few years ago.
We started digging, & digging, & digging. The roots went to China or maybe Middle Earth!
We were laughing and digging and and sweating and digging & finally freed up a big clump that took 2 of us to lift into the hatchback of my car.
I came home and chopped it into 10 good sized clumps and planted them around an old birch tree stump near the county road.
They have been spreading and doing well, but this year is the best yet!
Carolyne died in 2021, but these Iris honor our friendship, in a very meaningful way.

Your Siberian irises are inspiring! I have a clump that I'm going to redo. Did you do anything special for soil amendments? Fertilizer? TIA
