Big Bird

Today I took a different route on my drive to Spooner to the Wisconsin Heritage Canoe Museum and on the way I saw this Osprey having lunch on top of a power pole.
He was trying to eat his lunch
He was not to thrilled with me walking towards the pole
He's got an evil look for sure
Would not want to be on his lunch menu
He got mad at me and left
He took his lunch with him
What a wing span

Spent a couple of hours at the museum this afternoon

Chetek Osprey

The DNR put an Osprey nest platform just North of the Chetek exit on Hwy 53.  As I was driving to Durand on Monday, I noticed the adult was on the nest and I had a chance to pull over and take a few photos.

Even with my zoom, hard to get a good shot, this thing is really high.

It wasn't too long before it flew.

Away it flew
Off to the trees

Fish for lunch?

On Thursday, I grabbed a sandwich at Hardee's and stopped at Knapp Park in Rice Lake to eat.  This small park has been recently remodeled by the Lumberjack Historical group and an Osprey tower was added.
There was an Osprey sitting on the nest.  It is so high, it's really hard to get a good photo, but I had my binoculars and watched for a few minutes,
before I noticed a large bird in another tree on the water's edge.
When I looked closer, I could see that this Osprey had been fishing and was probably delivering lunch to his mate.
He circled around the area, maybe nervous about me standing outside my car.
I hope he delivered lunch after I left.
