Welcome to Colorful Colorado is the slogan you see when you drive into Colorado on the interstate. Friday, it was Colorful Cupcakes in my kitchen. I made about 6 dozen cupcakes for the upcoming Johansen Family Gathering that is going to be here at my house in Rice Lake.
These were fun and easy.
First, mix a white cake mix, then separate into 4 bowls and give it the gas with food coloring.

Batter split and in living color |
Next use quart zip log bags and pour each color into their own bag.

Each color of batter in it's own baggie. Note bottle of wine in background, (winkie, winkie). |
Then. get your cupcake pan ready and...here we go.
Snip off the corner of the first Ziploc bag and drizzle the batter to form a thin layer.
Then snip off the 2nd and cover the first color with the second, or just add some of the next color, your choice. You can't go wrong.

Green on the top for this batch |
Continue until each cupcake has some of each batter in the cup.
The Ziplocs work great if you rest them in a bowl between uses with the snipped end pointing up.
I also did some pans of mini-cupcakes.
I did one pan with just one color per cup and then next pan I added some of each color.

Mini cakes |
Now, bake your cupcake according to the directions on the box.

Red on top for this batch, and less worried about covering the previous color. It's a 70's flashback to tie dye. |
They look wild when they come out of the oven.

Very fun, colorful cupcakes!
I used red, white and blue for the 4th of July
but for the carnival party, I used red, blue, yellow & green.
