Prep for packing

 I've really been evaluating my options as to what goes to my new place, and what does not.  One thing that I decided right away,  was that the main bedroom set was not going.  I'll want to sell it very cheaply or give it away,  but not until after the move. 

So, until Oct. 8th, I need a place to sleep here at the house.  I also decided that I wanted to keep my current mattress (and boxspring) & send the guest room mattress & boxspring off with the bedroom set. And, I really need some space to put packed boxes and bags.  For my own sanity & in the case of a house showing, I want to use the guest room.  

So,  today,  I am switching the mattresses, and taking down the guess room bed frame.  It's just a headboard & frame,  so that part will be easy.  Muscling these mattresses are a different story. 

Hoping I can make progress before I have to go to the dentist at 230pm.

Barley of course, is mad.  She's stomping around yelling.  

Change is hard.

But I am making progress.  The main bedroom has a mattress again.  I'll wash all the bedding tonight and I'll be all set for the next month. 

 The other mattress & box spring is a real brute.  I don't think I can get it into the guest room without a chain saw. So,  I decided to move it out to my garage for the month.  I'll set up some tables to keep it off the floor & hopefully it will survive until moving day.  The movers will like that. 

I think I'm done parking in the garage now.  I knew that was coming.

I took a break and had my teeth cleaned.  Of course he found a cavity or a new crown, one or the other.  That's for another day. 

I came home and muscled the bed and boxspring to the garage.  It was a monumental chore. 

Dad always said that wheels are your friend.  Well,  Dad and his workbench-on-wheels made this job possible today.

Recycle electronics

 First Choice Computer Recycling is the best.  Located in Eau Claire. 

I like this electronics recycling place in Eau Claire because they actually do the recycling of the electronics right there.  You can look around their shop and see things being dismantled, and the parts being sorted.

Today, I dropped off a desktop computer, a laptop, a monitor, an external hard drive, a toaster, an old cell phone, a bunch of cords & wires, and 5 fluorescent tubes.  They only charged me .75 cents each for the fluorescent tubes, and all of the rest was free. 

My bill today was $3.75.  When I remarked, "That's it?" One of the workers said,  "Well, we do have a Pizza fund. If you want to contribute".  So,  I gave him $10 and said put the difference towards pizza.  I should have given him a $20.

On the way home,  I was passed by a new White Ford Bronco, it was a good looking new car. 

The vanity plate gets very high scores.

This afternoon I got busy in the bathroom and painted the wall where the drywall had been repaired several months ago.  A very old plumbing repair,  finally out of sight & out of mind.

Two things off the ✔️ list!

Purging

 I'm still in the purging part of moving.  I've packed a few things, but still need to get rid of much more of my collection. I really am determined to significantly reduce the size of my collection before my move. 

Today,  I loaded up the car with old electronics for the recycle.  Old computers,  batteries,  toaster, etc.  I drove to Eau Claire to drop it all off.  But, I was slow leaving the house, as I was watching Davis play in the Irish Open. I wasn't at all worried about the time.  So, I arrived in Eau Claire at 1:20pm. Sadly,  the recycle place closes at 1pm on Fridays, dang it. Who knew? 

The trip was not a total waste though.  I went to eat at Akame Sushi. They offer a all-you-can-eat menu for $23. I had eaten there before and knew it was good.

 The salmon is so tender and sweet.  The best I have ever had.  

I got my money's worth. 

I could have skipped that last crunch roll.  I felt very stuffed when I left. 

I'm going back to the recycling place on Saturday.  I might go for another round of sushi too.

 Here's the listing for my house. 

A nice story

 I had listed my wicker patio set on Facebook Marketplace as "'free' with some hail damage and the cushion's pretty beat, but that I had stretchy covers for them". And I had no takers. 

This morning, I had a text from a woman that said they wanted the set, and that they were coming in 30 minutes. And, shockingly, they did.  When they arrived, they were super excited about it. Once I told them, I was moving, he asked, are you getting ready of any of your lawn ornaments? And I said, Yeah, all of them and here's how they left.

He, Jim, was the master at jamming stuff in.  He ran around the backyard grabbing all manner of items,  many of which I had not remembered were there. He insisted that they pay me for some of the extra items, but I requested that they make a donation to their favorite cause.  They assured me that they would donate to St. Judes.

Good enough. 

And she, Michelle, told me their story.

  They had dated when they were 19 and then went their separate ways. He was married and had a daughter and his wife passed away and I believe she was married as well  A few years ago, their mutual friends, from when they were 19, arranged for them to see each other again. And now they are a couple living most of the time in Milwaukee, and some of the time up here in Weyerhauser. She told me that they are getting married soon.

The best was the name of their dogs....Indy and Kody PENDANT. Funny. 

We friended each other on Facebook.  They hugged me when they left.  

My house keeper came over this morning to chat with me.  She's going to come on Tuesdays for 2 hours every week to help me pack.  I sent her home with a 4 bowl set of very vintage Coors pottery mixing bowls.  She has little kids,  those bowls will get used. 

This was a good day. 

The news from here

 So, the news from here is that I am putting my house on the market and downsizing into a rental in Luck, WI.

After owning my own home for 45 + years, I am ready to live without home ownership responsibilities. It will be fun to live closer to family ❤️.  

The purging has begun....this is not the fun part.

I am well, this move is all about living with less stress and zero responsibilities.

Teachers rock

 Tonight, I gave all my Dad's stash of wood scraps and lumber odds & ends to a K-12 art teacher from a local school. 

I had an ad on Facebook Marketplace asking $1 for the wood. 

The buyer said that he  would come at 430pm, so after I sat in the garage for 30 minutes, I was wondering if he was blowing me off.  I sent a message through Facebook Marketplace asking if he was still interested. His wife asked if 7 pm could work.  I said okay. 

In the meantime,  I made up a Facebook Marketplace ad for the Dremel Scroll Saw that was sitting on my workbench. I posted that advertisement. 

At 7pm he pulled in with his Mom.  His wife was home with two littles (& a 3rd on the way).  He got right to work taking the wood down from the rafters. 

 He was so happy and I was even happier!  I asked him if he wanted the scroll saw. He jumped on it. He was so delighted to get the Dremel Scroll Saw.

Then I loaded up 2 ice cream buckets with boxes of screws and nails.

He left a very happy fella, and I was even happier.

I deleted that ad for the scroll saw.
