Volleyball with Alyxis

Saturday was a volleyball tournament in Amery and Alyxis and her Spring Valley team were playing.
I didn't get there for the first game, but I saw the last 3 games.
I'm not that sharp on the rules, but I am learning.
Alyxis is the send from the right on the top row.

After the win huddle

The girls played 4 games (about 10 matches) it catches up with a girl.

Anders

As I mentioned earlier, I stopped in Alma for a visit with Kris, Lora and Anders on my way home from Iowa.
 They are raising chickens now.

A few roosters and about 10 hens.
Should be plenty of eggs once they get laying.

I don't know that Anders was really enjoying holding the chicken.
And I am pretty sure the chicken did not like to be held.

Anders was showing my his swing set, he is starting to get the hang of  self propelling by pumping the legs.

Annie is a good old dog, she is pretty deaf now, but still keeps an eye on the yard.

Totally cool Anders

What a little show off
I took the county road N when I left their house in Herold,
It was a beautiful drive with all the leaves on the trees.
A windy road but worth the extra time it took to see the great views.

Happy 90th birthday to Dad

Last weekend was Dad's 90th birthday.
Since we are planning to have a Johansen celebration for Dad once he and Ev arrive in Wisconsin for the summer, I decided to drive down and spend the birthday weekend in Iowa.

Friday's drive to Iowa was fine and I arrived in plenty of time to unload and then be ready for dinner at the local eating establishment, Cattlemen's.
Good friends Jim & Janette joined us for a fun happy hour and delicious Friday Fish Fry dinner.

Saturday we headed to Des Moines to visit Dad's sister, brother in law and brother, who all live in the same senior housing complex.

After pie and coffee with this group and also Nancy & Pat O'Keefe, we walked Uncle Chris back to his apartment.  He recently moved into a nice apartment in the Memory Unit.
Cousin Gary (Uncle Chris's son) has done a nice job of making it be homey and Danish!
Uncle Chris in his new apartment.
It was nice to see the Danish plates on the wall
And the danish dishes in the china cabinet.
And some of the cross stitch that always hung in Chris & Elsie's house.
Saturday evening, back in Belmond, we watched Lawrence Welk and had a little happy hour.
Sunday was a lazy day of coffee and visiting.
For the evening meal, we drove to Clear Lake and had Mexican Food at Cancun.

We also picked up what we needed to get their bird feeder platform squared up in front of their living room window.  They are getting a few birds now;  cardinals, house finch, chipping sparrow and robin.
Their robin visitor like to eat the suet.
I have never heard of that before, but it is quite a treat to see a robin so close.
This is not a good picture, but you get the idea.  This guy comes off and on during the day and snacks on the suet block.
I drove home Monday morning.
As I left town, I snapped this picture.

I stopped Kris and Lora's on the way home.
I'll post a few photos from my visit later.
