New Houses

Today we finally had a day of nice weather and now that I have more mobility with the short arm cast, I was able to put some water seal on the two cedar bird feeder houses that I made in my woodworking class @ WITC just prior to my accident.
I mounted the house feeders on the deck railing out front and am anxious to put the seed trays in once the water seal has dried well.

It was nice to get outside and do a little work.  I am able to use my left arm a little now, so that helps, but most importantly, it was great to see the sun.

THE Wedding

I enjoyed watching the Royal Wedding this morning, although I missed my alarm so woke up mid ceremony.  I was watching a couple of cardinals in the front yard who were sparring and turned and snapped this photo of the newly married couple as one photo was blending into another, almost like being there.

And this is one of the cardinals who was showing a bit of attitude this morning.

And one LAST time

Well, I hope it is the LAST snow of the winter. I had hoped to take a trip over the Glenn's Lake Cottage today but it doesn't really sound like much fun in the snow.
The flakes are the size of quarters this morning, pretty for sure, but I believe it is enough now and we should move on to warmer weather.

Happy Spring, Happy Easter

Its got to snow on the robin's back three times before its really spring.

A patch

I had a visit with the ortho folks today to check my cast as my thumb was numb on one side.  A hole was cut to relieve the pressure on the nerve that runs from thumb down my arm, and then a colorful patch applied over the hole.
Stylin', eh?

We had some snow overnight, this robin did not seem too happy about it, neither was I.

Unpleasant weather

This morning we wake up to 2 inches of snow. It is only wet on the roads, but with a temperature of 33 degrees, the grass is covered and I am guessing some slick spots are out there hiding.
According to my blog, I think the first snow of this past winter, well I guess it hasn't passed completely yet, came on November 14, so officially a 5 month winter.
I believe that is long enough.

Odds and Ends

It looks like we could get a sprinkle of rain today.  I think the yard could use a little refreshment.

Yesterday I did a quick headcount of tulips that are up.  I planted 200 and easily counted 150 that are  already up a few inches.  It is going to be a good show when the blooming starts.

This morning when I went out to get the mail, I got startled by this little guy who was sitting on the step. When you think something is a leaf and then you see eyes, it is surprising.

My life is pretty boring these days (cast=limited activity)  so am happy to have a toad to brighten my day, does that tell you something about my state of mind?

Hops: the real deal

Last fall the Colorado Native marketing folks posted an offer on Facebook. The idea was that you could sign up to grow hops for the Colorado Native brand to use.   Even though I don't live in CO they were nice enough to let me sign up (31 years at the Coors brewery pays off once again).
Last week I received my 2 rhizomes in the mail.  I asked Lois to plant them for me in some pots that should hold them until mid May when I will plant them outside.  She planted them on Thursday, and already one has taken off.  No noticeable growth on the other yet, but I can be patient.

Lazy Master's Saturday

And now a beauty shot of the other lazy cat, Hops.  She has been glued to me today.

Today was cloudy, but quite warm, high 50s.
The arm was a little sore & I was pretty tired so spent most of the day watching The Masters golf on TV.

Though the magic of internet I have been very entertained watching the world famous Decorah, Iowa eagle's nest via the Internet.  The chicks are growing so fast and so ugly that they are cute.
I grabbed this screen shot earlier today.  Check it out be clicking here.

Tomorrow will be my first major outing since breaking my arm.
I am headed to Luck for great nephew Jack's 11th birthday party.

I am looking forward to the day.

What a beauty

The cats, Barley & Hops, have been very attentive since my fall. Partly I think that they are curious about the cast but probably mostly they are concerned about their food supply.

Barley has often come to lay as close to my cast as possible. This morning she was lounging on the new cast and I took these close ups with my phone.
Isn't she a pretty girl.

Bad news=3 weeks in this cast, then 2-4 MORE weeks in a short arm cast!

That is all.

Sunshine & Baseball

Today I spent some time lounging on the deck while listening to my Colorado Rockies via MLBTV.COM.
On a day like today, it is pretty easy to forget that we have not had temperatures 60 or higher for 5 long months.
It felt mighty fine to soak up some organic Vitamin D!

Cool Cat

My recovery seems to be going well.  I see the doctor on Thursday for an X - ray and then a fiberglass cast.  It will be good to have a change of casts.  I am going to suggest that my next cast have some built-ins.  A holder for my I-Touch, a spot for my cell phone, a hook for whatever I need to carry, and a zipper would be good.

Today I was icing down my arm and the crazy Barley cat and laid right on the ice bag.  She was quite fascinated with the cubes.  So, was she just chillin', or is she a cool cat?  I know, both are groaners.

Do you see what I see?

Finally the snow is melting away.
I took a short walk out in the yard where it was safe.

Tulip bed 1
But when I got up closer...yippee!
Tulip bed 2
And as I got closer.  Dance of Joy!
My blog postings are going to be few as long as I am wearing the cast,
typing on the laptop keyboard is a pain.
Bear with me friends and readers.

Stella on WCCO & April Fools

Last night Stella was part of the WCCO news cast.  Her Mom, Heather, captured Stella and Ruby one day as Stella was talking about her favorite anchorman.  Click below to see the clip.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY
This morning when I opened my blog I noticed that I had a new flag on my counter.
I am always amazed at how many international visitors I have on my blogsite, this one surprised me.

Have a good day!
